I rarely take advantage of all the things that Manchester has to offer, but over the summer holidays I came across the Baby Art sessions that are held each month at the Art Gallery in Manchester.
I booked Emma a spot on the session on Friday and after Daniel was picked up for a few hours in the park with my parents (see here for what they got up to) Emma and I got packed up and tootled off into Manchester.
It's been a while since I was in Manchester, and it is easy to forget just how busy and bustling the city centre is. I opted to take Emma out int he R&R carrier - partly because I love having her close but also if she found the noise, smell and sights overwhelming she coudl quickly nestle in to me.
Anyhow, off we went and Emma fell fast asleep - she was pretty tired so I was pleased she had decided to sleep on the way there. We got into Manchester and I took the short walk down to the gallery. We were a little early so it was nice to have a stroll around the gallery before joining the group.
The group met in the atrium and we were escorted upstairs to view the installation that had inspired the event that day. I have to admit to not being a great art lover and whilst I really wanted to understand what it was I was looking at, I couldn't help but think the art resembled something Daniel might have done when let loose with the paint at home. That said, it was a nice peaceful space and it was nice to have some 1-1 time with Emma and to see how she was interacting with things.
After ten mins we all went back downstairs to the studio where a mini adventure was set up for the babies. lots of different sensory activities and things to be explored.
There was a huge paper for us to draw around our babies, lots of boxes with things inside to make noises. Gloop, flour and other kitchen type things for the babies to handle. Emma's favourite bit was the slinkys hanging down from the ceiling - a great idea and a lot of the babies really enjoyed playing with these.
It was only a 45 minute session and the time seemed to fly by. I hope we can go again to the group as I think Emma really enjoyed the things on offer and it was nice for us to have that 1-1 time without Daniel needing my attention too.
When the session was over I popped Emma back into the carrier and we headed back to the station where we met Damian briefly. Emma fell asleep before I had even got out of the gallery - I forgot how much these activities take out of them. She soon woke up though when the noisy train set off!
