I think I have written before about just how dribbly Emma is - at one point I was going through around 15 bibs a day - yet there was no sign of teeth!
She was outdribbling most bibs meaning that often her top and vests were getting damp, meaning changes of clothes and more washing to do - I am amazed that my washing machine hasn't yet gone on strike the amount of work I have it doing!
Thankfully the dribbling slowed down a little, but over the past week the dribbling has increased. Coupled with rosy red cheeks, disturbed sleep and irritability I think it is safe to say those first teeth are on the way. I have managed to take a peek and *think* I can see the tell tale white lines under the gum, so I am hoping that she will soon have those first teeth poke through the gums.
I can't wait. She is doing really well with weaning (which I plan to write more about soon) and I am sure with the arrival of teeth she wll be able to really sink into the food she has.
I hope they come through soon as there really is not many things worse than the cries and sadness of a teething baby. We have been using the Dr Browns teethers we were sent some months ago (I wrote about them here) and they have been great for her to chomp on, and are really handy to throw into the changing bag when we are out and about.
I have also been using anbesol, which was something that was recommended to me when Daniel was teething. It didn't really seem to do anything for Daniel, but it does seem to help settle Emma for a short while; enough at least to help her sleep. On the particulalry bad days we have given her a dose of calpol, but as she isn't too keen on it we leave that as an absolute last resort.
It is also a challenge keeping her clothes dry! I have a huge assortment of dribble bibs; some I have made myself and other from Funky Giraffe and Zippy suit.
I think most parents are probably aware of the bibs made by Funky Giraffe; I certainly see a lot of their bibs when we are out and about but I suspect few are aware that Zippy suit also do dribble bibs. Some were being sold at our Baby Sensory group (raising money for Tommy's) so I picked some up, and we have also been lucky enough to be asked to review one of their absorbent bibs - knowing how I have struggled with aborbency in the past I jumped at the chance.
Super absorbent bib - the fleece on reverse is thicker than normal dribble bibs and super soft |
The standard zippy suit bibs are brilliant, and they wash really well (and I think they are more hardwearing than the funky giraffe ones we have). I was intrigued therefore to see what the absorbent bib would be like; I was concerned it would be thick and bulky. I was therefore pleasantly surprised when it arrived and appeared almost the same as the standard bibs (save for a few differences in edging etc). It is slightly thicker than a standard bandana bib, but not massively.
The thing that really struck me was how super soft the cotton is and how lovely the design is. Emma has worn the bibs a few times now and it does last longer than the standard bibs; yes it gets wet, but I find that it doesn't get wet underneath on the fleece. Meaning of course that I can keep it on Emma longer (and save myself having yet more washing to do!).
The absorbent bibs are sold for £4.50, and I think this is pretty good value. I will be picking up another 2/3 I hope to see her through those particulalry dribbly days. I also like the colours that the bibs come in; some with designs on and other just plain. Means that I can usually find a bib to co-ordinate with most outfits!
I hope those teeth soon make an entrance and give her some respite from teething pains, and my washing machine a rest from keeping all those bisb clean!
**We were sent a zippy bib in exchange for a review. All words, opinions and dribbly babies are my own**
